Many businesses are reluctant to accept and use the GNU/OSS software that is available today. Though the cost savings is very attractive, the major concern is what to do with the existing software, data, and databases used by the company.
As GNU/OSS programmers, we have available a huge suite of tools that can allow us to help make this migration from a proprietary OS (Windows, for example) reliable, and with little or no loss of data or functionality. Our database programmers have experience in GNU/OSS database programming, as well as more popular proprietary systems. We can transfer the data from your current database into a new cross-platform database, keeping your organization's important data safe and intact.
Most common Windows-based program suites (such as Office) have high-quality GNU counterparts. In many cases, users can make the transition with minimal re-training. For instance, the OpenOffice suite uses a similar set of tools as Microsoft Office, laid out in a similar fashion. This allows users of Microsoft Office to make an easy transition to OpenOffice. In addition, the OpenOffice suite can read and write many types of documents, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Wordperfect, and Lotus.
For those programs for which there is no GNU couterpart, we recommend using a Windows emulator. Windows emulators, such as Wine, allow Windows programs to run effectively on the GNU/Linux platform.
